Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

Decorating Nature Journals

March 26, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 10 Comments

Spring is now officially here in Nevada, meaning the snow is gone but the wind has started with a vengeance. It is a cold wind! But we can see bits of green shoots trying to poke through our beige colored landscape. In anticipation of seeing Mother Nature’s splendor the girls and I had an enjoyable afternoon yesterday, while Special Dark was napping, decorating the covers of our Nature Journals. The journals definitely show each girl’s personality. (Their names have been blurred out)

Bon Bon (12) likes bright colors. If she had her way her bedroom would be painted a bright green apple color. Unfortunately, she shares a room with Semisweet (11). . .

. . . who likes more subdued colors. Simple but beautiful.
Brownie (9) knows exactly what she wants. While the other girls sat for a few minutes trying to decide what to do Brownie delved right in using her favorite colors.
Truffle (7) likes everything. At least she tried to keep all the colorful stickers on one cover and the “green” stickers on the other.
Fudge (5) adores butterflies and flowers. Can you tell? She has been known to go out and lay on the grass in front of the rose bushes and just talk to them.
Cookie not only decorated her covers but the inside pages as well. She also decided to use the stickers on the covers for something else so ripped them off. Three year olds can do that you know.

And here’s mine.

After decorating the journals we applied a layer of Modge Podge to make them more permanent.

It is seeing things like this that make me want to go buy scrapbooking things. These are so lovely. And now, after seeing your cover, I have the song running through my head.

Beautiful, all of them! Sometimes I wish for girls. My boys couldn’t care less about doing stuff like this. I can certainly relate to 3 year olds pulling the stickers off to reuse somewhere else!

These are so neat! I love how each one is personalized. It will probably make your girls even more excited to use them.

They are lovely! I would write everyday…twice a day, if my journal was as inviting as those are.

What a beautiful project — made even more so by virtue of the fact that it was a family activity.

Visiting by way of the linky party at Smilemonsters!
