Pictures From our Trip

March 28, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 15 Comments

Just a few photos from the trip Mr. Ferrero Rocher and I had last week. For those that know me the travelogue is on my other blog.

This is the Palmyra Temple in Palmyra, NY. We are the red and blue blobs you can see. I had the camera on a tripod and set the camera to take a picture 10 seconds after I pushed the button. I had to run down the hill to get to Mr. Ferrero Rocher on time. I laughed the whole way down expecting myself to fall and start rolling when the camera clicked.
Thank goodness that didn’t happen!

The Sacred Grove in Palmyra, NY.

Split rail fence line leading from the Sacred Grove to the Smith Home.

I’m not even sure what plant this is. I just liked the spikes on it.

Replica of a post office in the Newel K. Whitney store in Kirtland, OH.

I want to make one of these someday.

Thanks for sharing your photos and the travelogue is great as well. We were able to go to Ohio about 6 years ago and I loved the John Johnson Farm. All the color was fantastic and the spirit is amazing everywhere you go!

I love Kirtland. We used to go there all the time when I was growing up, either as a family or for youth conferences etc. My Ancestors lived in the area before the Saints moved into the area and many of them joined the church and left the area when the saints did. It is one of my favorite places to visit. I have not been to Palmyra since I was about 12. We keep trying to plan trips to go there but it has not come together yet.

What cute little corn cob checker pieces on the checker board! I’m glad you got away and had some time together.

What gorgeous pictures! Looks like you had a wonderful time on your get-away. I loved the story about you running down the hill to beat the camera…

That looks like a great trip.

Isn’t it funny how in all the paintings of Joseph praying in the sacred grove the leaves cover the trees and it looks all warm and summer like, but he went out there this time of year and it looks cold and bare.

I’m trying to find an adjective that I haven’t over-used, but I keep coming back to beautiful. I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. I enjoyed the thought of you running down that hill in 10sec! I couldn’t have done that. 🙂

When I lived in NY we would take a trip to Palmyra ever other year and I always loved it.

Those are great pictures! We were hoping to hitch a ride up there with our Stake Youth this summer, but now they’re not going, and I’m not in YW anymore. 🙁

The pictures are beautiful. It sounds as if you had a wonderful time. Sea Star made a good point. I never really thought about that.

One of these days I hope to see these sites in person.

I love the story of you running down the hill to make the camera timer!

Breathtakingly beautiful! I’ve only ever been to those places in the summer, but it looks like the winter views are just as wonderful. I do miss being a three hour drive away from Palmyra…we sure miss our yearly outing to visit that sacred place! Thanks for sharing. Perhaps around pageant time I’ll do a post with some of favorite summertime photos–thanks for the idea!

The spiky plant is likely a burdock – they are rather abundant around here in wooded areas (I live 5 minutes away from downtown Palmyra). Burdock I think is the purported inspiration for velcro.

Your photos of the area are beautiful even for a colder time of year
