Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

The Demise of the TV

April 18, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 18 Comments

Remember our TV that keeled over last week? It took the efforts of She-Ra and He-Man to carry it out of the house. That thing weighed a ton! But since I’m a body builder I was able to do it with no problem at all. Really! I think I genuinely impressed Mr. FR. The TV was taken to its final resting place where we made sure it was really, really dead.

This is your brain.
This is your brain on drugs.
See what drugs do to you?
Well, okay, so it wasn’t drugs. Just a mini M14 Rifle.
We all dressed in black for the occasion.

Not really. We actually dressed in typical hick fashion. Notice the cut-offs paired with mud boots?

Hmm… you’d think the back would have sustained more damage.

Whoa! That’s why. The TV screen was 3/4 inch thick glass. Which would also explain why it took superhuman strength to carry that thing out of the house.

Ours caught fire, lucky thing my son was around to grab it and throw it out on the lawn. Quite the entertainment for the neighborhood!

That looks like it was fun. I will never tell my kids what you guys do, they’d want to find you and move in.

I love the cutoffs and mud boots. That’s exactly how I’d dress. 🙂

Oh, there is so much that could be said. How about: Way to go She-Ra! Especially after seeing how thick the screen was. AND, the pictures are very telling. AND I wish I knew how to shoot a mini-k-something-or-other. 🙂

I am laughing and crying all at the same time over this post. This is how you get rid of any dead appliance in Idaho. Then we moved to Seattle and learned that not only can’t you shoot the durned thing, but you have to pay $50 bucks just to dump it. Sadly we were ignorant of this and were the gullible suckers who accepted everyone’s lovely gift of their old junky TV’s (long sad story). It ended up costing $150 of our poor student money to dump them. My husband did it while I was gone (visiting in Idaho) and I almost wanted to shoot him. I told him we should have just kept them in our garage until the next Idaho trip and then I could have smuggled them out. =)

please recycle it. its really dangerous to put it in the trash. and there are so many ways to recycle it and such good things to come from it.

Sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. I’m a city girl, but I’ve got a little hick that hides inside. That part of me loves to think about blowing everyday things up.

Sounds like a great memory for the kids, and a creative way to do the job.

The only problem is that televisions have toxic insides. That is why they have recycling programs to take them back, just like computers. It is probably unlawful to dump it. It is in most states, and should be in others.

I hope you can find the right place to take care of it. And enjoy your tv-free life. It’s a good choice.

    Happy earth day!!
