Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

My dear Avi

July 16, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 13 Comments

I’m going against my own plan this week to stay away from blogging because I just have to post this link to the obituary for my grandfather, Avi, who passed away Sunday morning.

He was so special to all of us. I have sweet memories of living two houses down from his when I was little. Everyday I went over to visit Avi and Yaya thinking I was such a big girl because I could go all by myself without my parents to help me. Some of my fondest memories include standing on Avi’s feet as we’d dance around the living and dining room. Sometimes we’d dance to his music tapes, other times (and my favorite) we’d dance while he sang. He had a beautiful singing voice.

He loved to tell stories. And through those stories passed on some of the rich Catalonian heritage we now enjoy. Before I started college Avi thought I needed to learn how to properly make paella. We spent an afternoon laughing, talking, and cooking together. I will always treasure that.

I’m so grateful for the knowledge I have that families can be together forever. Death is not the end! We will see Avi again and enjoy the sweet associations we have had here.

We leave today to go to the funeral which is tomorrow. Please go read the obituary and learn a little more about the man we call Avi (grandfather in Catalan).

Love you AVI!

Thanks for sharing that….my husband served his mission in Barcelona so it was neat to read about the first native member there.

We have been back to visit a few times – it is an amazing city! food in Catalunya is amazing as well. You are lucky to have that heritage in your blood.

Sounds like your grandfather left quite a legacy. We wish your family the peace that comes with such a passing.
