Book of Mormon Fun FHE

August 24, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 5 Comments

This family home evening lesson is really a fun one! At least it was for our family. It came from one of the online Family Home Evening Swaps that I’ve participated in. Full credit goes to Beth G. for putting it all together. I’m just passing it along to you all.

There are a lot of parts in this lesson which makes it great for older children and teenagers. You can also split the lesson up for younger children and just do one part each FHE night for a month.

Make sure to print out all pdf files.

Here’s the lesson plan so you know what you’re getting.

Book of Mormon Fun

Have the person saying the opening prayer bless the refreshments as they are part of the lesson and will be consumed prior to the closing prayer.

Opening Song: Book of Mormon Stories, CSB, page 118

Opening Prayer:

Scripture: Doctrine & Covenants 84:54-57

Purpose: To get excited about reading and studying the Book of Mormon, by “getting to know it better”.

The Mission: Tell family members that you are going to spend the evening being reporters for a newspaper. Give each family member their “Press Pass” which will give them access to places that will help with their investigation into the Book of Mormon.

Phase 1 – “Discuss Me” What, When, Where, Who, Why and How? (See Book of Mormon: What, When, Where, Who, Why & How)

Phase 2 – “Find Me” Lets look for things found in The Book of Mormon. Take turns pulling out a picture and if anyone knows of a story or scripture that has that specific picture in it; have them tell the story or paraphrase the scripture. If not, use the index to find a reference for that picture.

Phase 3 – “Read Me” Included is a reading chart for the Book of Mormon. Set aside time each day to read the Book of Mormon either together as a family or individually or both. Be sure to color in the appropriate box for the chapters read, A master copy is included to be reproduced for individual family members to keep track of their own reading progress.

Phase 4 – “Review Me” Play “Book of Mormon Bean Bag Review” – Place the question cards face down in rows to form a rectangle. Take turns tossing the bean bag on to a question card and answer the question. Questions include: people, places and things in the Book of Mormon as well as scripture chase; where you give the chapter and verse of the scripture on the card. Keep the Book of Mormon handy in case you need help!

Phase 5 – “Report Me” Have each family member report on something that they learned during their investigation of the Book of Mormon.

Phase 6 – “Make Me” Make “Golden Plates” for your treat. Take graham crackers and frost with gold frosting (you might need to go to a specialty cake decorating store to obtain gold frosting, if none can be found use bright yellow.

Phase 7 – “Display Me” Display the quote by President Ezra Taft Benson as a reminder to continually study the Book of Mormon

Closing Song: An Angel Came to Joseph Smith, CSB, page 86
