My Food Storage Room Dimensions

August 6, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 3 Comments

Dear Emily,

You left a comment over a week ago asking the dimensions of my food storage room. I meant to answer you right away. Really I did! Then Mr. Ferrero Rocher got sick with the stomach flu and I had to baby him a little. I intended to answer right after he was well, but I forgot. Then I got sick with the stomach flu and it totally slipped my mind. Guess what? I just barely remembered again. This time I measured the room right away. No more foolish forgetfulness! My room measures 8’6″ x 13’6″. The 4ft. door is smack dab in the middle of one long wall. We have shelving in a u shape – along both short walls and the other long wall. Does that make sense? Anyway, just wanted to post this before I forgot again.

I found your blog when I was doing some food storage research. Anyway, I’m SO jealous of your food storage room! Someday I would love to have a whole room dedicated to my food storage. Now I just use the guest room closet, and under beds.

Cool, thanks for the info. I’m planning my storage room now for when we start on our basement. My grandma had a similar one to yours and I’m going to copy her design. It had wood floors and specially designed ventilation system that kept rodents & insects out while allowing the air to circulate. Like you, she had deep shelves in a U-shape.

Thanks. I have been away from the computer for a few days moving in to the new house. The info on your storage room helps me plan our storage room. I hope to begin it (unfinished basement) over the winter. Emily
