Messages of Faith

October 5, 2008 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 8 Comments

We just spent a wonderful weekend together as a family. We listened to General Conference at home wrapped in blankets. For those not familiar with our LDS faith, General Conference is a time where we hear words of instruction and counsel from the prophet, Thomas S. Monson, members of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles and other General Authorities and officers of the church. Links to their biographies can be found here. We are taught from the scriptures, messages of faith in Jesus Christ are shared, and beautiful music is sung in an effort to draw us closer to Christ and prompting us to live more Christian lives. Audio archives of the talks are already available. General Conference is broadcast over the internet and cable TV and to over 6,ooo church buildings throughout the world in 94 languages.

The girls and I made our traditional Sweet Rolls Saturday night while Mr. Ferrero Rocher went to the Priesthood session with his brothers. Sunday we ate sweet rolls for breakfast along with some eggs and ham that Mr. FR and Fudge cooked for us. The littler kids watched General Conference downstairs so they could set up a tent with blankets while the rest of us watched it upstairs. We then took a car ride along the foot of the mountains. It was so good to have Mr. FR home with us this Sunday as his usual Sunday duties as bishop keep him either at church meeting with members of our ward (local congregation) or visiting with them in their homes.

you are so lucky and remind the kids how lucky they are!! we have to go to the chapel and usually end up in the parents room… hmmmm 20 noisy kids and their fed up parents – you cant hear anything anyway!

Sounds like a lovely GC day. I do always relish having that Spirit piped directly from the Prophet into our home.

I love your Sat night tradition to make sweet rolls during Priesthood so you can eat them on Sun. morning. I have always dreaded that time, for some reason. I ought to make a tradition for my girls and make it something to look forward to. Thanks for opening my eyes. We did the littles downstairs and the biggers up, too. Thank goodness for streaming video through the internet. GC was wonderful and I think I found something to cry about during every single talk!
Thanks for your comments on my blog. I extend my sympathies again to you on your miscarriages. They are so NOT fun. Hope you’re feeling better.

We had a great weekend too. I have to wonder where the sweet roll tradition started? We had ours Sunday morning too, and I know lots of other families with the same tradition. 😀

OK, now I’m really jealous that you got to spend Sunday with Mr. FR. My hubby didn’t have to be bishop that day, he had to work 27 hours of overtime this weekend keeping the protesters in line at conference. In the pouring rain.

I would much rather have had him here with me! I think conference should be enjoyed as a family.
