Tie Dyed T-Shirts

June 26, 2009 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 13 Comments

The summer reading program with our local library has officially begun. We are very lucky to have the bookmobile come to our house every other Monday. During the reading program there is an activity for the kids to do every time it comes. The first week they colored their own hacky-sack balls. This past Monday we tie-dyed!

The first photo is an example of how to create spiral/swirl design. The next one is Special Dark’s which will have many bull’s eyes. The last photo is Semisweet’s patriotic bull’s eye. It was hard to wait 24 hours before we could take the rubber bands off to see our designs.

Truffle with her very vibrant spiral tie-dye shirt!

I loved looking at these hanging on the line to dry.

Love the laundry line! Gorgeous! I’ll have to add that to my list of “must do” projects this summer!

The shirts look great hanging on the laundry line!

I completely forgot about bookmobile on Monday. Countrychick asked at noon what time bookmobile was and I just gave her a blank stare. I was home Monday, but just plain forgot! I felt awful when I saw the look on Countrychick’s face…she was pretty bummed. Guess I will have to go pick up a schedule so I know when the bookmobile will be out for July.

I love the clothes line pic, too! We have all the fixings for tie-dyed shirts but haven’t done it yet. Your pics inspire me!

Loved this! Though I’ve done tie dye before I never get a good spiral design. Would you please give directions for that? Thanks.

    Alison,
I have no idea what dye was used. The bookmobile provided it. I do know that Dharma Trading Co. sells some good dye.

    MarySue,
There is a link to a good video showing how to create a spiral/swirl design in the blog post. Just click on where it says “how to create a spiral/swirl design.”

Hi. I am a homesick American living in the Middle East. I have two kids and would love to know how you tie dyed those shirts! I am sure the paint can not be found here but could you tell me what you used? Much appreciated! Loved the laundry line too. Great!
