The dreaded “potty training” task is upon us. Having potty trained six girls I felt like I was a pro until I realized it would be a little different with Special Dark. For the most part he wants to sit on the seat but occasionally he wants to be a “big boy” and stand up. The thought of him raising and lowering a toilet seat grossed me out.

Shortly after starting Special Dark on the potty training we received this in the mail.

Introducing the Shandle, a handy little antimicrobial plastic hand washing reminder that sticks under the toilet seat so it can be used to raise and lower the seat WITHOUT getting all germy!

Who’d a thunk? So simple, easy to install, comes in a variety of designs, and it works! We have the leaping frog shandle but there are other animals, decorative designs, robots, and even special Halloween ones. Special Dark is into frogs right now. We have a few stuck in our window well that he likes to look at. The frog is perfect for him. And it really does help to remind him to wash his hands when he is done. Thank goodness! It’s also a nice little reminder for the girls.

Here’s where I would show you a picture of it installed on our toilet but even we photographers lose the USB cord to upload our pictures occasionally. 🙂 This illustration from www.theshandle.com will have to do.

See? Nothing to obtrusive. Just a nice little handle to raise and lower the seat. One small complaint I did have… I wish they made them to install on either the right or left side of the toilet. As they are now all Shandles install on the right side (when you’re looking at the toilet) but the toilet paper roll in the kid’s bathroom is on the right so the Shandle gets bumped often by little legs swinging over to reach for the TP.
