Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

T-Shirt Re-fashioning

April 26, 2010 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 17 Comments

Spring is here! I’ve been trying to de-clutter our house slowly. I went through my clothes closet. {shudder} There were so many old clothes in there! Worn-out, out-dated, and eek! too small. After a thorough cleaning session I realized I needed some new spring shirts. Most of our days are spent at home so I didn’t want to dish out a ton of money on shirts that will get spit up on, sweated in, dirtied from the garden, etc. However, I did want shirts that would still be feminine, pretty and just plain fun to wear. Enter the t-shirt refashion.

I bought long sleeved t-shirts on the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart for $3 a piece. I cut off the sleeves to make short sleeves. Then re-fashioned each into something more than a plain t-shirt. I’ve done three shirts so far.

From this typical long sleeved shirt:

green shirt 01

to this:

Gray Reverse Applique shirt

and this:

Green ruffle shirt

and this:

Black Ruffle shirt

What do you think?

And yes, that’s me in all my “slightly pear-shaped, had eight babies, pleasantly plump and proud of it” body. ☺

I only wish I could sew that well. Those turned out so cute. They are all cute but I think I like the black one the best. The little ruffles around the sleeves are really fun.

Love the gray with reverse applique. I am assuming that’s how you did it…if not, still like it. And am inspired since my own summer clothes are in need of overhaul. Last thought…if you’d had 8 babies and were stick thin, I’d have to hate you! I look very similar and only had 4. Have a great day.

If you had 8 babies and were tiny it would be abnormal! 🙂 I think you look great! (I wish that my excuse could be 8 kids…)

I LOVE to re-fashion. It is so much fun to make something new and look fabulous after! The green one is my fav. it makes me want to go and make something for me! I seem to refashion for everyone but me. 🙂

I love what you did with these shirts! They are fabulous!! I saw one like the green one at Ann Taylor for $38–I left it there!

    You are sooooo creative.

OH, please send me some of your how-to for getting done all that you do with E-I-G-H-T kids:-). You are awesome!

One more thing–and this is a really odd question, I have been wondering for the year I’ve been reading your blog, do you really eat as much chocolate as you talk about:-). I only ask, because honestly, some days I eat way more chocolate than I do real food and I’ve always wondered if there’s someone else out there as crazy as me:-)!!

I’m simply impressed. My idea of dressing up a long sleeve shirt is to throw another t-shirt over it..
