Spud Nut

I do like other foods besides chocolate. Honest!

1. French Fries, preferably from Wendy’s. They’re even better dipped in a chocolate Frosty!

2. Baked Potatoes – plain and unadulterated with a dollop of butter and some salt and pepper.

3. Mashed Potatoes rich with sour cream and butter.

4. Cracker Barrel Hashbrowns

5. Homemade Country Hashbrowns (the kind that are diced and fried)

6. Potato Pancakes

7. Potatoes Au Gratin

8. Funeral Potatoes

9. Potato Soup

10. Broccoli and Spinach Calzones

I was never one to play with dolls as a child. I played with potatoes instead. Seriously. I would carry them around cradling them as if they were dolls. One of my favorite toys was Mr. Potato Head.

And the humble potato, it loves me back. Just ask my hips.

I too, heart potatoes. I used to watch those cartoons with the guys on the ships who had to peel potatoes as punishment and think, That’s not such a bad job. I wonder what they’re going to make with all those potatoes? I’ll bet it’s yummy.

Here’s my recent most favorite potato recipe: baked potato wedges. Just cut up a baking potato into wedges, place on a baking sheet that’s been sprayed with a little oil, then spray some more oil over the potatoes (or you can just toss them in oil beforehand). Sprinkle garlic salt on them and bake. Oh, the yumminess.

Lol. That’s my son. He thinks there are only two food groups: chocolate and potatoes. I figure there’s worse things for a picky kid to live off of than baked potatoes.

Oh man, we must be soul sisters. I always think that if I had to live on a desert island and choose only one food source to live off of, it would be a toss up between potatoes and chocolate. I love every kind of potatoes. In fact, I have some leftover funeral potatoes in the fridge that you just made me crave.

Well, you got me. When I saw spud nut, I thought about the best donuts ever! Don’t think you’re old enough to remember them though. The home made ones are just as good!

    I love taters too!

A few weeks ago I was reading a book about the 7th Handcart Company. It was written by a BYU Professor of Nutrition. In one of the tiny, eensy weensy endnotes in one of the chapters, (which I by happenstance stumbled over) he briefly went over a study someone did in regards to WWII and hunger/starvation and rations etc. etc.
Anyway, what I remember about what I read was this: An egg was given the most points (meaning the #1 desired food to have) and chocolate was in very last place.
    CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???
I was very sad and upset about the whole thing that I decided it was the perfect occasion to finally use a Mother’s Day coupon for a pound of See’s Chocolates – Nuts & Chews!

And oooh, I love fries, too!!! Hot. Crispy. Salty.

I love Mr. Potato Head. I have continued to collect pieces for various potato heads “for my kids”. Yeah, that’s it. For my kids!

For me its a toss up between potatoes and Mexican food. I often wonder if I have some Mexican or Irish blood in me somewhere. LOVE both. I have a child who will not touch anything made with potatoes. I tell him he cannot possibly be my son! (He goes without food alot since we eat so many potatoes here)

Oh man! I definitely think I’ll have to try those Cracker Barrel hash browns. And I totally agree that Wendy’s fries should absolutely be dipped in a chocolate frosty. HEAVEN!!
