Wordfull Wednesday: Of daylilies and irises that come full of surpririses

(Yes, I intentionally misspelled surprises in my post title. It’ll be more clear by the end of the post)

The arrival of spring is a much anticipated event at our house. It doesn’t matter what the calendar says. When the first flowers begin to grow and then bloom we know spring has finally arrived.

Fudge is my official flower watcher. This girl LOVES flowers! She spends hours at a time carefully walking around our property looking for any signs of growth from the crocuses, hyacinths, and tulips as they are usually the first to bloom.  She will lay on the grass next to the wild yellow rose bushes and talk to them telling them how beautiful they will be when they finally show their sunny yellow faces for all to see.

Last Friday morning we received a wonderful, thoughtful surprise! A couple of visitors drove all the way from town to deliver a box of iris and day lily bulbs, transplants from their garden. A note was also included:

Dear D–  and family:

For you, some purple Iris, which bloom in May,
Hope that when you see them, you’ll have a good day.

Some Orange Daylilies, blossom full in July,
They are so striking against the blue sky.

And someday, with a home of your own,
Transplant some of these, in your garden to grow.

When you look at them with your beautiful eye,
Think of kindly old Brother & Sister F—!

Is that not a thoughtful and fun gift for a flower loving little girl? I cannot tell you how excited and special Fudge felt. She was beaming from ear to ear! She hurriedly finished her schoolwork and chores so we could plant the flowers. You can bet there will be updates when they bloom.

Here’s a HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to my beautiful mother who also happens to LOVE flowers!

I love this Wordfull Wednesday series — so this is *every* week? I’d already posted something for today, but I can’t wait to join you next week. I love your blog — what a great combo of spirituality, homemaking, and person-making (yeah, not a word, but I couldn’t think of another one).

How fun! I love that she talks to the flowers. Kids are so great at reminding us of what makes life great!
