Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

You are here: Home / Family Life / Farming / The Harvest

The Harvest

August 18, 2011 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 10 Comments

Golden heads swing in the breeze against the backdrop of a cloudless blue sky.

wheat 07

Each stalk the product of a tiny seed placed in well-prepared soil.

wheat 01

A seed can multiply itself thirty, sixty, or even a hundredfold.

wheat 21

Such is God’s law.

wheat 03

Contemplate, then, as one of His spirit children your potential as part of the greatest of all creations,

wheat 04

Man.

wheat 05

“Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

wheat 06

“And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side and the fowls came and devoured them up:

wheat 08

“Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:

wheat 09

“And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

wheat 10

“But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Matt. 13:3–6, 23.)

wheat 11

What is my potential if I would but cast out the stony places of my heart,

wheat 12

clean out the thorns,

wheat 13

cultivate deeply, nourish deeply, and irrigate deeply

wheat 14

so the Lord’s law of the harvest will multiply itself in me?

wheat 15

There is no limit to my potential! There is no limit to your potential!

wheat 16

So long as we conform our lives to the Lord’s law of the harvest.

wheat 17

“I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.” (Doctrine & Covenants 82:10)

wheat 18

God has bound himself to provide us with abundance

wheat 19

so long as we labor for that blessing by living His law in righteousness.

wheat 20

Who will forfeit the harvest? Not I, oh I hope, not I!

About the pictures: We (meaning the men) just finished harvesting roughly 300 acres of wheat. It’s bound for a dairy in Fallon. The dog in my niece’s. His name is Kurt and he acts just like Doug on the movie Up. The last few pictures, Truffle is showing how we like to take a head of wheat, grind it between our hands, and blow away the chaff so the wheat berries are left. Fresh wheat straight from the field is so yummy to chew on!

Oh my. The words escape me.

That was so beautiful. Thank you so much. One of my very favorite parables is of the wheat and the tares, there is so much to learn from the simple words there.

I love to chew fresh wheat, it makes the yummiest “gum”!

I am reminded of a favorite hymn, Unless a Grain of Wheat. It’s from that reading of Matt. and so beautifully describes our role in His plan.

Gives new meaning to the field is white ready to harvest and just bring out the combine harvester and go after it!

The field is white applies to children, missionaries, moms, dads, and wheat.

    Congratulations on a great harvest!
