Deep Beauty

January 29, 2012 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 3 Comments

This video is a clip from a talk given by Sister Elaine Dalton, General Young Women President. Sister Dalton tells of how she learned as a young woman what true beauty means.

The subjects of beauty and modesty are so intertwined. We want to look good, in fact have a charge to care for the bodies we have been given. But that can be taken much to far. One of the consequences of that is we forget completely about the inner beauty that is more important…”for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

My friend Stephanie had to give a presentation on beauty and modesty. She shared her notes and thoughts on her blog in a post, The Beauty Paradox. It is one of the most well written, thought out articles I have ever read on the subject! It is a must read for everyone – not just girls or women, but boys and men too. We all get caught up, and mixed up, in false definitions of what beauty is and should be. Steph lays it out clearly and concisely. She has also listed a whole host of wonderful talks and articles she used in gathering her thoughts and preparing her presentation. If you are looking for something to study this week (or month!) there you go.  =)

I’ve seen this video a few times now and it’s so good. I also clicked over to your friend’s post which is FULL of wonderful truths. It is so sad that more of the world doesn’t believe it. It is definitely not just a topic for the youth. I’ve been thinking of things for a blog post about it too, but don’t have the time–and it wouldn’t be as beautiful as Sis. Dalton’s talk or Stephanie’s post.

Thanks, Cocoa. Boy did all the studying strengthen my testimony of these principles and open my eyes to how Satan twists them. I really recommend those resources to anyone who wants to understand it more.
