Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

You are here: Home / Wordfull Wednesday: Ma, Marme, or Mother?

Wordfull Wednesday: Ma, Marme, or Mother?

January 10, 2012 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 11 Comments

What fictional character do you identify the most with?

I put this question to my older girls asking them what fictional character I remind them of the most.

Here’s how the conversation went down {to the best of my memory}.

Bon Bon: Ma.

Semisweet and Brownie: Ma?

Bon Bon: Yeah, you know Ma Kettle.

Me: What?! {laughter all around}

Bon Bon: {laughing} Just teasing! I meant to say Ma from Little House on the Prairie.

Me: Well, that’s much better.

Semisweet: I was thinking Ralph Moody’s mother.

Brownie: Yeah, you are more like that, only your husband isn’t dead.

Me: Thank goodness he’s not! So Ralph Moody’s mother? Not Marme from Little Women?

The girls {I can’t remember who said what at this point}: Not Marme. You have a lot of girls but you aren’t like her. Ralph Moody’s mother, yes! She’s resourceful, loves her children, doesn’t complain about the situation her family is in, and is happy. She digs in, gets it done. Her kids grow up knowing how to work together.

Well, I’m not going to argue with that! I’m so glad I wasn’t the wicked step-mother from Cinderella or Mrs. Comstock from A Girl of the Limberlost!

If you’ve never seen Ma and Pa Kettle watch this funny clip. Twenty-five divided by five is fourteen?

So what fictional character do you feel a kinship to?

Since we only had one Wordfull Wednesday each in November and December I combined the participants of both for the drawing of this fabulous family love tree from ColorBee Love on etsy.

The winner is Kimberli from Tripp Trap Tripp Trap! Congrats!

I’m thinking I won’t ask. I might be afraid to hear the answer. I have already been called the “wicked witch of the west” or was it east, it can’t remember although either way it wasn’t good.

    Fun topic.

I love having talks like this. Just last night my son and I talked about movie characters. We laughed until we cried. It was grand.

Haha! Great clip and fun conversation. The clip reminds me of this one from Abbott and Costello: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLprXHbn19I

Growing up, I identified with different characters than I do now. I always felt like I was more like Jane Bennett than Elizabeth, and more like Mary Ingalls than Laura. I didn’t feel like I was full of personality like all the protagonists, but I wanted to be. It wasn’t until I got married that I began to change and develop the “personality” that I had longed for as a teenager.
I’m still reading to find a character with whom I now identify. Thanks for the fun post idea!
One question, though…you told us who your daughters think you are like, but with whom do you identify?

Can you tell I was trying to side skirt my own prompt? I couldn’t narrow it down so I am thinking and whittling and will write a post about who I identify with soon.

Ooooo, should have asked my boys! 🙂 I am going to ask them, but I am with Allison, I may not like the answer!

I had fun thinking about this yesterday and today as we had some of the most stressful two days of the week! ha ha. I think it changes as we have different days.

Great therapy to write it out though. 🙂

I can’t pick just one…but I LOVE Marme. She was amazing. Her family loved the moment she walked through the door! They knew she could make everything better. She loved her girls (all very different) for who they were and encouraged them to become what they were meant to be. I love Marme…So much that after I read the book I wished I had had Jake call me Marme for a little while. Mommy works just great for me though… 🙂 I haven’t been blogging or reading blogs much lately and totally missed this post!!!! I would have done a post about it if I had known it was here. I need to improve my time management so I can read all my favorite blogs again!!! 🙂

I am totally late to the party on this, but I still want to play. This is one of those subjects I have pondered about quite a bit throughout my life. Great topic, Cocoa!!!
