Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

Boise Idaho Temple Open House

October 28, 2012 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 13 Comments

Friday morning we started bright and early to travel 4 1/2 hours to Boise. We decided to travel in the farm’s motorhome so it would be easier for the kids {and us}. The only problem was the heater didn’t work. Nothing that wrapping up in warm blankets can’t solve!

riding in the motor home

Can I just say driving in Oregon is a big pain? The highway speed limit was 55 mph. In Idaho and Nevada on the same exact highway, its 70 mph. We felt like we were crawling. About an hour before we arrived we had all the kids change into church clothes. We arrived with 15 minutes to spare before our reservations at 1:00pm, just enough time for Mr. Ferrero Rocher and I to get changed too.

Holiness to the Lord
The front of the temple. The inscription on the middle tower says, “Holiness to the Lord. The House of the Lord.”

The tour starts in the chapel next to the temple. We watched a short video about temples. The video also included some history of the church in the Boise area.

From there we walked over to the temple for a tour. It is beautiful! It amazes me how even the littlest ones can feel a change in the atmosphere. It is peaceful, happy. They were all reverent and quiet as we toured through the different rooms. While no cameras are allowed inside, the church has taken pictures of some of the rooms. You can view them here at the Boise Idaho Temple page.

Family in front of Temple

After the tour we took pictures outside the temple as a family and then of each child individually.

Did you just take my picture?

This is my favorite leaf!

I also caught a couple of girls picking up pretty leaves before getting back in the motorhome.

Boise Idaho Temple
This was the last glimpse of the temple as we turned onto the interstate to go back home. It was a wonderful experience to be in the temple with all of our children, to have them feel the special spirit that is there. It is in the temple where husband and wife are married not only for time but for eternity. Our marriage relationship doesn’t end with death. Our family can be together forever. That is something we look forward to!

If you live near Boise, ID I encourage you to go and tour the temple. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a member of our church or not. We made reservations online but no one asked to see our printed paper. No one will be turned down. Just show up and be prepared to enjoy a feast of peace and reverence. The open house runs until November 10. Learn more about the open house here.

Interested in learning more about why we build temples and what they are for? Watch the two videos I have embedded below. If you have any other questions I’ll be happy to answer them. Leave a comment or send me an e-mail.

We just went to Oregon last week.
I wanted to stop and say hello…but after a week of 55 m.p.h. and the OR/NV desert…I was heading home!!!
I have always believed there is a beautiful place in heaven for you…but now-my friend, I believe you are a saint, SAINT, I tell you!!
All the pictures of the farm mean so much more now and honestly…did I mention saint?
    🙂

If drove on HWY 95 at all, especially in Nevada I’ll be sad you didn’t call to let us meet you somewhere!

How blessed are you and your family! We just had the dedication of the Calgary Temple today! It was so exciting for us and our 2 sons who were old enough to go. First one they went to. It sure is a wonderful place to be!

That’s my temple! We are going through this Friday. Everyone in this area is so excited for the dedication and the cultural celebration that will precede it. It’s remarkable how thousands of people have banded together, joyfully preparing for the events. There is a special spirit in our wards and stakes. So glad you got to visit!

Ooh, I wish I could have gone! For a second I was confused about why you’d be so cold that the kids would need blankets. Oh year- it’s actually cold up where you live! We’re still going around in shorts here in the Mojave desert. ( : All those kids riding in the motor home brings back fond memories of our family all riding around like that. So fun!

Oh Becky! I am sure we must have seen one another We stopped to take pictures after our tour and then went back to the chapel for about 1/2 hour before heading back home. What terrible luck to have just missed an opportunity to meet you!

What a wonderful experience for you and your family! I’m sure it will be treasured for many years to come. And thanks for the link to the pictures. That’s the sealing room where our third son was married; it brought back great memories.

What a wonderful experience for your family, and how great to show your children how important the Temple is by making the journey.

Went to the first dedication in the 1980s. Was beautiful then, too. Our son was sealed to us there!

We went that day too, but later, like 6. I wrote a little about it on my blog. We drove through Winnemucca last Spring on our way to California. Too bad I didn’t know you existed then.
I have to confess, I sped through Oregon a little.
That motorhome looks awesome (even if a little cold). We need to get one of those for when my husband goes on his first sabbatical and we can spend the whole time touring the country.

Like Jocelyn (who is a dear friend of mine BTW!) we also just attended the Calgary, ALberta Dedication. What a blessing to be able to witness something like that in our stake buildings. Our children were able to attend and what a wonderful experience that was.

Temples are such an amazing blessing to us all. How wonderful to have a Father in Heaven who loves us so much and gives us such blessings.
