Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

You are here: Home / How Do You See Yourself?

How Do You See Yourself?

April 17, 2013 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 11 Comments

Imagine if someone asked you to describe what you look like to them. Would you be completely honest? Or would you exaggerate what you perceive your “flaws” to be? How would your perception contrast with what others see?

An FBI-trained forensic artist, Gil Zamora, created sketches of seven women who were hidden behind a curtain; he used their self-descriptions as the basis of his drawings. These women were also asked to spend some time with a stranger. Zamora then used the strangers’ descriptions to sketch the women.

Watch the video and see the results.

Now, how do you see yourself on the inside? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Do you recognize the talents and abilities you have been blessed with, the characteristics and qualities you have developed? Would you be able to honestly describe your true self? How would that contrast with what others around you would say about you? More importantly, how would your perception differ from what your Heavenly Father sees in you?

“for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” {1 Samuel 16:7}

Do yourself a little favor today. Take some time to be honest about who you are and the greatness that is there. Then smile, carry on, and BE GREAT.

    I saw that the other day. What a neat way of showing women there’s more to them than they think!

    I truly believe in that old saying “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” I just met a fascinating lady at a new book club I just joined. She said, “After being a counselor for many years, I truly came to believe that every woman in beautiful, and every woman has something to teach me.” I love thinking about that. It’s so true. Thank you, Cocoa, for your beauty and for all you teach me!

    Isn’t it interesting to think about how we see ourselves?!

    I have had the opportunity to describe myself for people as I meet various people in real life that I meet through blogging. It has been interesting to me. The first time I did it, the lady walked right past me and didn’t even stop. She didn’t recognize the woman I described. I guess I have been more true to myself each time because that has only happened once, but it taught me a great lesson.

    This was beautiful and taught another. Thank you for sharing.
