Missionary Toolkit {Review & Giveaway}

January 16, 2014 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 30 Comments

Do you have a son or daughter out on a mission or getting ready to serve one? Are they nervous about knowing the scriptures well enough to find answers to questions investigators may have?

Missionary Toolkit are scripture reference cards that work with Preach My Gospel to help a missionary quickly find just the right scripture no matter what topic they are teaching. The video below explains it really well.

I have a set in my own scriptures. They sure do come in handy, especially if you teach a class. The topics are easy to find and the scripture references are listed in book order. I have been able to find what I am looking for in under 10 seconds (most of the time less). Really!

As the video explained there are 5 cards in the kit. Cards #1, #3, and #5 correlate directly with the 5 lessons in Preach My Gospel (PMG). Cards #1 and #3 both cover the first three PMG lessons: The Restoration, The Plan of Salvation, and The Gospel of Jesus Christ but deal with different books of scripture. The other two cards, #2 and #4, are talked about more below. Cards #1 and #2 specifically cite scriptures in the Book of Mormon while cards #3 and #4 cite scriptures from the KJV Bible.

Topics found on Book of Mormon Reference Card #2:

  • The Great Questions of the Soul
  • 23 Questions Answered by the Book of Mormon
  • What the Book of Mormon Says About the Bible
  • The Book of Mormon Testifies of Jesus Christ
  • Book of Mormon Stories (favorite feature)

Topics found on The King James Bible Reference Card #4:

  • The Parables of the Lord (favorite feature)
  • The Miracles of the Lord (favorite feature)
  • Other Stories from the Life of Jesus
  • Other Sermons Taught by Jesus
  • Words of Comfort

I don’t know how many times I have been in a class or talking with someone and want to find a certain scripture story. These reference cards have the stories in order for quick, easy reference! I wanted to find the parable of The Good Samaritan the other day and I was able to find it in 3 seconds using the reference cards. It saved me so much time! Before I would have looked up Samaritan in the topical guide in the back of the Bible which then tells me to look in the Bible dictionary under Samaritans. I then would have to flip to that and scan through the history of the Samaritans only to find this sentence “There are several references in the N.T. to the antagonism between the Jews and Samaritans (see Matt. 10:5; Luke 9:52; 10:33; 17:16; John 4:9, 39; 8:48)”  I would still have to look through those scriptures to find the parable. Instead I looked under Parables of the Lord on card #4 and spotted the good Samaritan: Luke 10:25-37 right in the middle of the section. Boom! Don’t I look smart?  🙂

What I really like about the Missionary Toolkit is the cards are glued right onto the inside covers of my scriptures for handy reference. I have seen a couple of products going around that also correlate with Preach My Gospel but they involve marking your scriptures according to a specific system. It can take hours! And you are still stuck trying to remember where a particular scripture is found. With these cards I am free to mark my scriptures how I want to.

I have three sets of cards to give away this week! You can choose regular or large depending on what type of scriptures you have. (I have the large set) Enter below.

But I guess we were supposed to comment on what language… English and Spanish are great – I’d next pick Mandarin.

I would love a set of these! I began homeschooling my son this year. He is in grade 7. We are only 6 years away from him going on a mission. This would come in handy for our scripture study!

Portuguese would be cool- that’s where my husband served his mission. But we’d only use English here- at least for now. 🙂
