Cranial Hiccups

Every once in a while and totally unintentionally my brain spews out a good idea.

Thanksgiving for 60+ People

December 4, 2016 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 2 Comments

At the beginning of November my mother-in-law called and asked if we could host the big Wadsworth Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year. Now that our new addition is done and the living room was expanded earlier this year we have room! Wadsworth gatherings are HUGE. Joseph is one of 10 kids and this year was an “on” year where most would be here instead of at their in-law’s house.

We were excited to have everyone here. Not only would our house get a really good cleaning but people would actually visit to see it! How many times do people stop by when your house is spotlessly clean? Never for me. They always seem to stop by when we are in the middle of living. 😀 Which I don’t mind at all but still, it’s nice to have people enjoy your clean house every once in a while too.

We set up two tables in our kitchen, a kiddy table in the school room, and four tables in our living room to accommodate all the people.

The nice things about these gatherings is it is always potluck. We baked the rolls (12 dozen), corn pudding, and several pies. Others smoked or baked turkeys and ham, made the gravy and mashed potatoes, and everyone brought various side dishes. It makes the gathering easy and fairly stress free.

We usually eat Thanksgiving dinner around lunchtime, break for several hours where the guys will blow up something (one year it was a dishwasher, another an old car), then we gather together for pies!

It is such a delight to gather with family and visit and build memories. Of course we did have to get a picture of the latest batch of babies. All are cousins except the one on the left is the third of the great-grandchildren!

I love big family gatherings! Only about half of my siblings are married, and we already have crazy big gatherings with at least 40 people. And all the babies! I think we have 3 people expecting right now. So fun! I’m glad for you that you have the room to have so many people over now. Hopefully you have plenty of bathrooms too. ( :
