The Living Christ: An Easter Countdown

April 10, 2011 by Montserrat {Cranial Hiccups} 25 Comments

There is a new updated 30 Day Easter Countdown here!

Easter is one of the most spiritual beautiful holidays! To celebrate the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ and what it means in our lives is truly to reflect on the whole purpose of why we are here and on HE who makes it possible for us to be redeemed from our sins.

The next two weeks I will be sharing our daily activities and devotionals as a countdown to the blessed Easter Sunday. The devotionals and activities are based on The Living Christ. We memorized it as a Christmas gift for Mr. Ferrero Rocher and now that he has it memorized as well we thought it would be a very appropriate document to center our Easter activities around.

To start with I am sharing the ornaments we will be hanging on our Easter tree. They can also be used as a garland. Each ornament or tag contains a picture and a portion of The Living Christ that will be discussed for that particular day. There are more tags than there are days left to Easter (I was a little slow in getting this put together) so we will be doubling up on Sunday as an appropriate way to keep the Sabbath Day holy.

The pdf file contains not only the tags but also each day’s discussion questions, scriptures, a song suggestion, and of course, the portion of The Living Christ that is being covered. It does not include the crafts and activities. You will either have to find your own or come and visit the blog each day to see what we have done!

Also included are all of the artwork or paintings first in small scale (for you to create your own tags) and also in large scale (to use as an art study). The paintings and artwork I chose are, for the most part, part of the public domain. Most were found at wikimedia. Those that were of more modern events are taken from the Gospel Art kit or book which can be used for non-commercial home use. I have given credit on the tags as well as the individual pages to all the known artists.

I created the countdown in a way that made sense to me – for the most part following how the truths are presented in The Living Christ. I switched a couple – Priesthood and Church Restored before Joseph Smith’s testimony. You’ll notice that several of the tags have the same number. For those days I thought that having two (or three) pictures better clarified the scriptures and doctrinal concepts being taught and discussed.

Here are the activities/crafts we have done for each day so far:
Day one: The Birth of Jesus Christ
Day two: He was the creator of the earth
Day three: Jesus Christ was baptized
Day four: The Miracles of Jesus
Day Five: Jesus taught the truths of eternity
Day Six: He instituted the sacrament
Day Seven: The Atonement
Day Eight: Betrayal and Trial of Jesus
Day Nine: Calvary’s Cross
Day Ten: The Risen Lord
Day Eleven: His other sheep
Day Twelve: His priesthood and church are restored
Day Thirteen: Testimony of the Apostles
Day Fourteen: The Second Coming
Day Fifteen: Judgment
Day Sixteen: HE LIVES!

Cocoa, thanks so much for this! Doc and I have really wanted to do better with focusing the kiddies attention this year on the meaning of Easter. This will be so helpful.

very good! mine is much more simpler that I just posted! Getting in early for EAster is so much harder than christmas (i think cause the date changes?) I’m glad that easter is ‘late’ this year. I’m not turning the calendar page and easter is a few days away!!

That is a neat idea! We’re close to finished memorizing The Living Christ but seem to have hit a wall. It’s a lot for the mostly younger crew I have. Our goal was to be done by Easter but we may take one or two weeks beyond that to finish.

We followed your example and started memorizing the Living Christ so that we would have it done by Easter. It has been a wonderful experience. We have the last paragraph to go. My younger two haven’t memorized it but whenever they hear phrases or scriptures they get all excited because it is familiar to them. It happened a lot as we listened to conference. But we also decided to surprise my husband (like you did) which somehow makes it just a little more exciting.

Thanks for your great ideas and inspiration.

    Judi 🙂

I love the idea of an Easter Countdown. We’ve been focusing on the Savior’s last week on Earth. I wonder if I can figure out a way to incorporate both?

We memorized The Living Christ for Christmas also but certainly need a refresher course.

This is a nice way to review it! I think I am going to take advantage of all your hard work and go through this document again.

    Thanks!

This is beautiful Cocoa. Thank you for sharing with us.

We wanted to memorize this as well, and this gives us something easier to work with.

Thank you so much for putting this together. I often read holy experience, she does some nice things but they don’t always fit our beliefs. I am so grateful to have an LDS perspective and then to be focusing on the Living Christ. We are finishing up the last paragraph for Easter. I love your blog and I thank you.

What a great idea! I made an easter tree and wanted to incorporate gospel teaching into it and couldn’t figure out how. I ended up doing it with the Ester cones here:

We are starting tonight! Every year we do a week of nightly FHE lessons from Palm Sunday till Easter Sunday – we’re just going to add this as a morning devotional. Thanks so much!! This is fantastic! I really appreciate all the time and thought you put into this activity.

Thanks for sharing. I need to so something, Easter is sneaking up on me (which is sad as it is so late this year, you’d think I’d be prepared).

Thank you so much for this countdown. My husband and I have been having a hard time reading our scriptures daily and this was a wonderful jump start for us. We love reading about our Savior each day! And it will make Easter even more special for us this year since we prepared spiritually!
